Short, light-hearted video showing what it was like to dive with thousands of fish swarming under the jetty at Samarai Island in Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea.

It was cloudy and light conditions were far from ideal: bright diffuse whitish light from cloudy skies outside the jetty + dark shadows under the jetty. Lots of plankton in the water too, which is probably one of the reasons the fish were gathered in such large(!) numbers.

There were several species of fish all mixed together, including hardyhead silversides (Atherinomorus lacunosus), bigeye scad (Selar crumenophthlamus), yellowstripe scad (Selaroides leptolepis) and probably many more.

I shot everything on a Canon 7D with a Tokina 10-17mm lens, in a Zillion housing with a Pro One dome port. Catch-lighting is from two Light and Motion Sola 1200 lights.

The visit to Samarai Island was on MV Golden Dawn mvgoldendawn.com
