Come join us on our Maldives expeditions aboard the luxurious 147-feet Maldives Princess Liveaboard. We have an exciting schedule planned for 2014. With the success of our 2013 trip, we made the decision to go even further into pristine and remote waters.
February will see us heading far South. This area is only divable three months in the year and promises even larger fish and bigger schools! This is THE peak of the diving season in the Maldives. We will be there for two weeks. Not to be missed!
April will see us cruising to Laamu Atoll for two weeks. Laamu Atoll features exciting channel and drift dives with large schools of sharks, big tuna and jacks. There are no resorts on the atoll which means less divers and pristine diving conditions.
The remainder of the two weeks are also carefully picked to maximize the dive possibilities in the Maldives. August is the time to head to Baa Atoll and Hanifaru Bay. Baa Atoll is home to Hanifaru and where mantas congregate annually to feed. With a little luck, it is possible to witness a huge school of mantas feeding within a tiny area. The diving route will also see us heading to signature sites after around Male, including the very impressive Alimathaa night dive with Nurse Sharks and Giant Trevally. December over Christmas is also the time when the peak season starts. What better way to spend your Christmas than on an island for a BBQ party on the beach? (after an excellent day of diving of course!)
Going even further during the Super peak months of February and early April will require an additional one way flight (either to, or back from the South) and a small fuel surcharge. However, the diving promises to be MANY times better than the already excellent diving nearer to Male. Diving in this location is only possible in the months of January through April. As we are committed to providing only THE best diving possible, we have blocked 4 weeks during the super peak season. Each of these trips are available as one week trips (with an additional domestic one way flight required) or full two week expeditions to fully experience the further destinations (and avoid domestic flights).
The Expedition Boat – MV Maldives Princess
Currently the biggest liveaboard vessel in the Maldives, the huge furnished staterooms rival most 5 star hotel rooms. A huge modern galley allows the chef to produce excellent meals and a jacuzzi on the top deck complete with DVD player lets you unwind in style after the day’s dives!
Diving is all conducted via a Dohny that travels alongside the mother ship. Nitrox is also available for free (but not recommended for certain deeper dives). Although this will be a dive photography oriented trip, the luxury liveaboard caters to the leisure diver too. It’s not all hard core diving if you prefer to just kick back and relax. A well stocked (and reasonably priced) bar with a competent barman, extensive wine list, Kayaks are available for use and trips to remote islands (where we will have a BBQ night) can all be organized. From our experience, if you don’t take it easy on some days, you will miss the best of what the Maldives has to offer! Blue skies, turquoise water and white powder sand….
Award winning underwater photographers EunJae Im and Kay Burn Lim will be leading these trips. As always, any photography related questions may be directed to us. We are always ready and happy to help or just discuss gear and techniques! (preferably at the bar after a nice day of diving!)
